Youth Voice is inspired by Alexis De Tocqueville’s Democracy in America, which warns against the dangers of the American population gradually becoming less involved in society, creating an eventual erosion of democracy. Youth Voice seeks to prevent this by encouraging the youth of America to take positive action in all facets of society.
Today:
- Youth voters represent a growing population of more than 25 million people.
- In 2004, average turnout for registered voters aged 18-24 was 31% lower than that of adult voters; in the heated 2004 Presidential election, voter turnout among this population was only 47% of registered voters.
- In Nevada, this figure was a mere 44% of eligible voters aged 18-24.
- Between 1978 and 2002, the average turnout of registered voters aged 18-24 decreased from 25% to 19%.
- In 2002, only 20% of voters aged 18-24 voted in midterm elections in Nevada.
Youth Voice, Inc. provides a forum to educate the youth of America about the importance of civic involvement and motivate them to participate fully in the system designed for everyone’s voice.
Youth Voice is a 100% non-partisan and youth controlled organization. All voting members on the Board of Directors must be 26 years old and under. Youth Voice in no way espouses any agenda or ideology, nor does it seek to influence the political beliefs of any of its members.
